Gas Prices Going UP and MBCG Has a Solution

August 14th, 2012 · No Comments

The past three weeks has seen the price of gasoline going straight up to the $4 mark. It’s not the first time it hit $4. Now that we are getting familiar with this price, the oil companies soon enough will introduce us to $5, $6 and more. It’s only a matter of time and how well our economy can tolerate the gouging.

The answer may be tapping our oil reserves or as Palin said, “Drill Baby Drill.” In our little neck of the woods, the Manhattan Beach Community Group has suggested and researched renewable energy-Solar Power. The sun is not running out. The price of the sun is not going up or down. It is consistent and reliable.

Renewable energy is not only helpful to our wallets but to the national interest.

The MBCG five years ago proposed installing 900 solar panels in the eyesore bath house on Oriental Blvd and Hastings Street. At the time it would have provided 10% of our communities energy needs. Our goal was, and is, to make our community self reliant on energy and replicate this plan throughout the city.

The Bath House is like another boarded up unfinished house. Except it is a block long and in the center of our neighborhood. This is not about politics. This is about finding solutions to our problems. Gas is going up. Your money is going down. Our economic recovery will stall.

Tell your elected representatives to look at the sun and feel the wind on their face. The solution is that close.
