There are 193 non for profit corporations (501 C3s) in our zip code. They include us, the MBCG, Public School PA’s, Church, Islamic, Synagogue Groups, Charity Groups and many more. They range in size from a few people to hundreds and a thousand and more like us. Their bank accounts range from no money to millions of dollars.
The MBCG has been operating within the laws of NYS for the past 70 years, filing taxes each year for example. This makes us one of the longer running transparent non for profit corporations locally. There are some groups that are a few years old. There are some that are mysterious and secretive.
Our elected officials and appointed leaders in our zip code, school districts, NYC Council Districts and NYS Senate and Assembly Districts make choices weekly and monthly which non for profit corporations they either visit or send representatives to. Do they go to all 193? No, they can’t even if they wanted to.
Do they always come to our meetings? Not all do but some try and we appreciate it. We’re researching which non for profits they do attend. Why shouldn’t our electeds attend PTA;s and PA’s? Would they attend meetings of non for profits that are not in accordance with State laws? Maybe, maybe not.
Let’s hear from our electeds and other leaders how they rate the importance of non for profit 501C3’s in our zip code. Where are they getting their information from? Who are they sharing information wth and importantly who are they giving money to? More to follow.
